The past two days have been nothing short of dramatic. This past Monday, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to determine the best first-party game of this hardware cycle. You were given eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to face off against each other, all heading towards a championship round where the top game from each console would battle it out. We've witnessed some nail-biting finishes in the first two rounds, especially yesterday’s razor-thin votes. Now, it's time to crown the best PS5 and Xbox Series X games before Thursday’s final battle.

PlayStation 5 Contenders

On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it won top honors at last year’s Game Awards, but its win against God of War Ragnarök seems like a major shock. But to get to the finals, it'll have to go through the MVP of the PS5 generation: the acclaimed developer. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the final four, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to land in the final four. Will Spider-Man defeat a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he fated to become a chibi cameo in the upcoming Astro Bot title?

The Xbox Series X Side

The Xbox Series X side has been more exciting. Coming out on top from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the racing adventure title so far, demonstrating that a more specialized genre game deserves to be on the equal footing as classic platformers and story-driven epics. Its last roadblock en route to the championship is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a much bigger game from an well-known franchise that's closely tied to the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's likely Indiana Jones.
